Scholarships- SigEp at UNL

Each year, brothers are able to compete for scholarships funded by either the local or national Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation.

  • Ross Hecht Scholarship

    2 scholarships available. Each scholarship is $2,500.

  • Description: The Thomas Dickey Scholarships (3, $2,000 each) are award to a rising Sophomore, Junior and Senior (one per class) who best exemplifies the Balanced Man Ideal of Sigma Phi Epsilon. (Awarded via Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid; fall semester.)

    Selection: Candidates must complete the scholarship application, be in good standing at Nebraska Alpha, be returning to the University of Nebraska – Lincoln for the academic year in which the scholarship will be awarded and live in the chapter house in the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded. Selection is by a committee designated by the Alumni Corporation.

  • Description: The Kent Morgan Olson Scholarship ($1,000) is awarded to the member who best exemplifies the principle of Brotherly Love.

    Selection: Candidates must be members in good standing of Nebraska Alpha with Sophomore or Junior class standing. Candidates must be nominated or self-nominate to the Chapter President prior to the announced time for the chapter vote to select the scholarship recipient. Selection is made by a vote of the chapter and approved by the AVC.

    Timing: Selection at a chapter meeting prior to May 1 for award via the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid in the following semester.

  • Description: The James Moore scholarship is awarded in honor of two brothers who died in the service of our country. Big Jim and Rich were “Balanced Men” who lived SigEp’s Cardinal Principles of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. These scholarships will be awarded to members who live the Cardinal Principles with strong preference given to members with p ast or present military service.

    Selection: Candidates must complete the scholarship application, be in good standing at Nebraska Alpha, be returning to the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and live in the chapter house in the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded. Selection is by a committee designated by the Alumni Corporation.

    Timing: Application must be made during the Spring semester prior to May1 for award via the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid the Fall semester.

  • Description: The Homer A. Scott Scholarships (3, $1,000 each) are awarded to the men that the Alumni Corporation deem to have contributed most to the growth and fraternal spirit of the Nebraska Alpha Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon.

    Selection: Candidates must be members in good standing of Nebraska Alpha, plan to return to Nebraska Alpha and live in the chapter house and have an accumulated GPA equal to or higher than the most recent all-campus average for men. Candidates must be nominated or self-nominated to the Chapter President by May 1. President will determine the qualified candidates and forward to the Alumni Corporation for selection.

    Timing: Selection in Spring semester for award via the AVC in the Fall.

  • Description: The scholarship is awarded to a member with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher who have contributed most to the betterment of Sigma Phi Epsilon with strong preference given to members in the UNL Honors Program.

    Selection: Candidates must be members in good standing of Nebraska Alpha and must apply for consideration to the Chapter President who will confirm cumulative grade point average and membership in the UNL Honors Program. Recipient will be selected by the Chapter Counselor and approved by the AVC.

    Timing: Application must be made during the spring semester prior to May 1 for award via the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid in the Fall semester.
